Spurs will have to quickly forget about Thursday's horror show against Liverpool when they were swept aside with ease by the Premier League leaders in the Carabao Cup semi-final, and will now turn their attention to some FA Cup action when they travel to Aston Villa.
Aston Villa are currently sat in 8th place in the Premier League, and made it straight through to the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League by finishing in the top eight, so they're proving that last years 4th place finish was hardly a fluke. They have also already played another London based Premier League team in the FA Cup this season, after they came from behind to win 2-1 against West Ham United last month.
The Villains have been hit with some key injuries, with defenders Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres being out for the foreseeable future, and prolific goalscorer Ollie Watkins, who went off in the 2-0 loss over Wolves last saturday. Manager Unai Emery could however give debuts to both high profile loan signings of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, coming from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain respectively. Villa have only lost once in the Premier League this season, a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham's rivals Arsenal back in August, proving that Villa Park is a fortress.
Spurs gave debuts to Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel on Thursday, and despite the heavy loss they were definitely two of Spurs' bright sparks the other night. Sounds weird to say especially about Danso, being part of a defence that conceded four, but none of the goals came from an error of his. He looks to be in the starting lineup yet again as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Drăgusin are all still on the sideline.
Tel this time could play from the start rather than coming off the bench after Brazilian centre forward Richarlison went down with a calf injury midway through the Liverpool game, and of course Englishman Dominic Solanke still yet to be fit.
Aston Villa are a very good team in transition, having players that can carry the ball at such pace like Donyell Malen, new signing from Borussia Dortmund, Jacob Ramsey and especially Morgan Rogers, who has been incredible this season for the club.
They can definitely stretch teams with balls in behind aswell, with the likes of Malen, Leon Bailey and Rashford all able to make that run in behind what is inevitably going to be a high line Spurs defence, so that is something they will have to be weary of. Spurs will need to be patient when they have possession of the ball to make sure they don't give it away in silly areas for that dangerous counter.
It's now time for the Lilywhites to show some real character, fans will be wondering how they will bounce back from a defeat like that. Villa Park is of course a tough place to go but this is another very good chance that Spurs have for a trophy. With Arsenal already out in the third round, and Chelsea exiting earlier tonight, the more big clubs out the better for Ange Postecoglou and his team.
The game will kick off at 17:35PM (I know, how strange), and will be shown live on free to air TV via BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and live broadcasting will begin at 17:20 (again, weird I know). Let's hope for a great game of some classic FA Cup football!
