Lazio have received bad news from the training ground, as Matias Vecino has reportedly aggravated his condition and could be out of action for a considerable amount of time.
The 33-year-old had sustained a muscle injury during the Europa League contest against Ludogorets on November 28th, which kept him out of action in the following five fixtures against Parma, Napoli (twice), Ajax and Inter Milan. But while the Uruguayan was hoping to make a swift return to action, his hopes have been shattered.
According to several news sources, including La La Siamo Noi, Vecino suffered a relapse which will keep him out of action for quite some time. The report believes the veteran might need another two months to heal, so he’s not expected on the pitch before the middle of February.
This is a significant setback for Marco Baroni who doesn’t have too many options at his disposal in the middle of the park. Vecino was deemed the first choice off the bench to cover for regular starters Matteo Guendouzi and Nicolo Rovella. The management was already planning to add a new midfielder to the squad in January, and they ought to be more adamant on this front following this untimely development.
