Leandro Paredes admits Roma are devastated by their late defeat to AZ Alkmaar, which ends their hopes of the Europa League top eight, while he takes his future ‘one day at a time.’
The Giallorossi still had a chance of breaking into the top eight and securing direct access to the Round of 16, but that is now gone after their painful 1-0 loss in the Netherlands.
“It’s a disappointing result, we had the opportunity to finish in the top eight. Now we have to go through the play-offs. Evidently we need to improve away from home,” confessed Paredes on Sky Sport Italia.
The only goal of the game was scored by substitute Troy Parrott, who was ready to sweep in the roll across from six yards after Roma gave the ball away cheaply.
“It is something we know, we have this defect dealing with counter-attacks. We have to improved, because it’s not good enough.”

Roma had been unbeaten in six games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, including a victory over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale and draw with Milan at San Siro.
“It’s so disappointing, because our recent performances had been really good, so to come here and play like this is really upsetting,” added Paredes.
“We struggled in the first half to find the spaces and keep the ball. When Matias Soule came on, we held the ball a little more and created more scoring opportunities, but it was not enough.”
There has been a great deal of speculation around whether Paredes will remain at Roma beyond this summer, although he had seemed to be on the way out in January too until Claudio Ranieri took over the role.
“I really don’t know, to be honest. I live my life and career one day at a time, we’ll see what happens,” concluded the Argentina international.
