The Swede is yet to start a game for the Pilgrims, and will be eager to be included from the off against the Hatters
The signs are there that this Plymouth Argyle side are starting to tick under Wayne Rooney, and Rami Al Hajj could be the final piece of the puzzle.
The Swedish playmaker joined the Pilgrims on deadline day from Danish side Odense, with the Devon outfit said to have forked out £840,000 to bring the 23-year-old to the club.
With his creativity in the final third, Al Hajj could be the man to help Argyle unlock Championship defences on a more regular basis in the campaign to come, with his brief cameos already proving he has something a little bit special in his toes.
As Luton Town make the journey to the south west in front of the TV cameras on Friday night, Rooney may well turn to the new arrival to make all the difference against the Hatters.
After joining the club on transfer deadline day, Al Hajj came off the bench to make his debut for the club in their 3-2 victory over Sunderland at Home Park earlier in the month.
The minute he entered the pitch, the Lebanon-born star looked graceful in his role behind the striker, with his introduction adding an extra bit of elegance and grace into the Pilgrims side when they had possession.
Whether it was his intuitive nature to know exactly where his teammates were going to be, or his exquisite close control that made him a nightmare to get the bail off, the summer arrival oozed quality with every touch as the Green Army took him in for the first time.
Another strong showing against West Bromwich Albion last time out once again proved that the playmaker will prove to be an asset at Championship level, with Rooney teasing that he could be in line for his first start on Friday night.
The Argyle boss said in Wednesday’s press conference: "Rami [Al Hajj] has had a good few weeks training now. He's available to start the game, if we feel it is the right decision."
With the fact that Al Hajj has been given time to bed in over the past few weeks, Rooney has proved he has learned from his mistakes earlier in the season, where five players were given their debuts in the opening day clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
The 4-0 thrashing that day proved that decision to be unwise, and the Argyle boss has admitted he has had a different approach with his playmaker as he adapts to life in England.
Speaking to Plymouth Live after the West Bromwich Albion defeat, Rooney said: "My decision on not playing him today was - and I have said this to the players - I felt the first game of the season (the 4-0 defeat away to Sheffield Wednesday) I probably played too many of the new signings, and players who haven't played in this division, at once.
"I think with Rami today was the first experience of coming away from home in the Championship. I think it was the right decision to leave him on the bench, and see and feel the atmosphere, and what we want.
"Also it gives us another week to work with him and build his fitness up. We have to remember he hasn't played a game since April so I think that's important as well, that we protect him. From now, he's ready and available to play."
Having got more and more minutes in the bank during his substitute appearances, this Friday could see the arrival of Al Hajj from the start, with the boss having a decision to make regarding his midfield options.
With Adam Randell, Adam Forshaw and Darko Gyabi patrolling the middle of the park last time out at the Hawthorns, Rooney will need to make way for their new attacking threat, with Gyabi likely to be the player most under threat, with Al Hajj filling in behind the chosen striker.
Luton have hardly set the world alight themselves at the start of the campaign, and Argyle have the perfect opportunity to try and make it back to back home victories under the lights at Home Park, with performances improving week on week as the side get a further understanding of their new boss’s game plan.
The inclusion of Al Hajj from the off could well be the difference maker against the Hatters, with Morgan Whittaker and Ibrahim Cissoko likely to be given licence to perform on the flanks by the Swedish conductor once he is given the opportunity to flourish.
