Ange Postecoglou says he feels as though he deserves more respect and has hit out some of the “dismissive” criticism of him.

Postecoglou has come in for more criticism this season with Spurs currently tenth in the Premier League table.

The Spurs boss has pointed to the club’s injury crisis as a reason for their inability to build on his first season in charge so far, having been without many of his key players in recent weeks.

And Postecoglou has been left unhappy with some of the criticism aimed his way.

“It’s not the first time in my career but you kind of feel that 26 years of hard graft should get you a bit more respect and I’m not the only one,” he said. “I’ve seen it happen to other managers. I saw it happen to Unai (Emery) when he was here, saw it happen to Nuno (Espirito Santo) when he was here.

“I said last week, I think we’ve crossed the river in terms of how we treat people sometimes. Not everyone will be a fan of the way I do things, even the way I play, people will have different opinions. Like I said, that’s normal, that’s healthy, but some of it’s been pretty dismissive.

“It’s a bit of human nature and the way we are these days. We get something and then we want something more, then something else more, then that doesn’t satisfy us and we want something else.

“I’m a lot simpler. I just think whatever makes you happy, hold on to it, cherish it and embrace it. It doesn’t have to be more, just appreciate something for what it is.

“But we’ve all got people in our lives like that. It’s like that uncle who even on the best day says ‘oh but it’s raining outside’ or you’ve just won the lottery but you have to share it because two people have won it.

“It just depends on your outlook on life. Some of it is anxiety because they think ‘this is what I want but I also want to win’ and ‘if it doesn’t look like we’re winning, do I really want this?’.

“Until you get there, there’s always going to be that little bit of uncertainty.”
