There’s no rest in the Premier League with gameweek 22 on its way.
The dust has barely settled on a thrilling gameweek 21 and teams are already having to prepare for their next games this weekend. It starts with Newcastle United hosting Bournemouth in Saturday’s early kick-off, with the Magpies looking to keep hold of their spot in the top four.
This gameweek then runs until Monday night when top-four chasing Chelsea host relegation-battling Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
Premier League leaders Liverpool have a potentially tricky trip to face Brentford, while Arsenal host Aston Villa in probably the biggest game of the weekend.
We’ve taken a look at all 10 matches from gameweek 22 and offered our predicted scores.
Newcastle moved into the top four in midweek after their 3-0 win over Wolves, and now they’ll be hoping to stay there. The victory was Newcastle’s ninth in a row across all competitions, six of which have come in the Premier League. They face a Bournemouth side also on an unbeaten run, now 10 without defeat across all competitions. But the Cherries are winless in their last four visits to St James’ Park and have lost eight of their last 11 Premier League games kicking off at 12:30pm on a Saturday.
Liverpool will end gameweek 22 top of the league, regardless of what happens across the weekend. But they will be wary of dropping more points. Despite being on a long unbeaten run, Liverpool have drawn their past two matches. And they face a Brentford side that have been strong at the Gtech Community Stadium. Only Arsenal have taken more points in home matches in the Premier League this season than the Bees’ 23. But, Liverpool have won their last four games against Brentford, scoring 10 goals and conceding once.
Fulham recently saw an eight-game unbeaten Premier League run come to an end in midweek, but they did draw six of those matches. It leaves Fulham 10th, losing a bit of ground in the race for European football. But things are worse for hosts Leicester City. The Foxes have lost their past six league games and sit two points from safety. Despite their defeat to West Ham United, Fulham managed to score twice and have netted two goals in each of their past four league games.
Another London derby in a matter of days for West Ham as Crystal Palace visit the London Stadium. The Hammers had an unfortunate run of three successive defeats across all competitions, including two heavy league losses. But they bounced back in beating Fulham and will be hoping the ship has been steadied. They face a Palace side unbeaten in four in the league, winning two and drawing two. The Eagles have also won three of their last four Premier League away games and are unbeaten in their past five on the road against West Ham.
Arsenal closed the game at the top of the Premier League in midweek, but they’ve got a tricky matchup to try and maintain the gap. Aston Villa travel to the Emirates Stadium unbeaten in their past three including two wins, and they won here last season. But Arsenal are the best home team in the Premier League this season, winning seven and drawing three of their 10 games at the Emirates. Stretching back to last season, Arsenal are unbeaten in 13 in the league at home, since Aston Villa beat them in April. And seven of the past 10 games between Arsenal and Aston Villa have seen at least one team fail to score.
Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa (23/4 with BetMGM)
Tottenham Hotspur may have beat Liverpool in the EFL Cup, but they’re still struggling in the Premier League. The north London side are now winless in their past five in the league, losing four of those. That includes the north London derby defeat to Arsenal in midweek. Everton are also on a winless run, now six without victory in the league. The second David Moyes era got off to a losing start in midweek, with a 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa. But, Everton vs Tottenham at Goodison Park is the most-drawn specific fixture in Premier League history, with 17 of the 32 meetings finishing level — including each of the last five.
Manchester United ended their long wait for a home win in midweek, coming from behind to beat Southampton. That was their first league win at Old Trafford since the start of December, ending a run of three straight defeats. Brighton also saw a poor run come to an end, winning in midweek after eight league games without victory. And the Seagulls enjoy this fixture. Brighton have won five of their past six Premier League games against Man United, including both trips to Old Trafford during that run.
Nottingham Forest‘s fantastic season kept going in midweek as they held Liverpool to a draw. Although it ended their winning run, Forest remain unbeaten in their past seven league games and sit third in the table. They face a Southampton side that will be reeling after their late defeat to Man United having taken the lead at Old Trafford. It leaves Southampton rooted to the bottom of the table, with just six points from their opening 21 games. And their chances of adding to that this weekend are slim, with Nottingham Forest having kept a clean sheet in four of their past five league games.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest 3-0 Southampton (7/1 with BetMGM)
Manchester City are on a bit of a run, now unbeaten in four games in the Premier League. It’s lifted them up to sixth in the table, three points outside the top four. But they were rocked by a late comeback against Brentford in midweek to drop two points. Ipswich Town, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone after their defeat to Brighton. The Tractor Boys have lost three of their past five games, including two at home.
Prediction: Ipswich 1-4 Man City (14/1 with BetMGM)
Chelsea go into this game winless in five in the Premier League, their worst single-season run since April 2023 when they went seven without victory. It’s a run that has seen the Blues drop out of the top four, now trailing fifth-placed Newcastle by one point. At the other end of the table, Wolves’ bright start under Vitor Pereira has well and truly finished. Wolves have lost their past two games without scoring, conceding three goals in each match. This game has brought goals recently though, with at least six goals scored in each of the last two meetings.
