Manchester United escaped from a freezing Doosan Arena with a crucial three points and their first win on the road in Europe since March 2023.
After a turgid first half, the game sprang into life with three second half goals, including a brace by substitute Rasmus Hojlund.
The Dane was looking for a goal to match Marcus Rashford’s and Wayne Rooney’s record of 10 European goals at 21 years old or under for the club. Thankfully, he broke it with a match-winning brace.
Hojlund had to make do with a place on the bench as Joshua Zirkzee got the nod to start but the Scandinavian wasted little time in making an impact when he was summoned by Amorim in the second half.
He was brought on in the 56th minute of play when he came on for the ineffectual Marcus Rashford and wrote his name up in lights with a goal just six minutes later.
Great work from Amad Diallo down the wing led to a ball across the area which set up Hojlund with a close-range finish.
The 21 year old’s work was not done however, as he grabbed a sensational late winner in the 88th minute to make United’s progress in the Europa League look a lot more assured.
Clever thinking from Bruno Fernandes at a free kick resulted in a lovely ball into Hojlund who flicked the ball past his marker and rifled it into the bottom corner to send the away fans into raptures.
Sofascore gave the player a fantastic rating of 8.3 after his huge contribution.
Along with his two goals, he had one more shot on and off target as he proved a constant threat to the home side.
Hojlund proved how lethal he was as he only received 21 touches of the ball and made five passes but still found a way to make the difference, with one of those passes being a key one.
With five goals in his last four games, Hojlund will feel he has done enough to show Amorim that he should be United’s main man upfront.
After being a substitute today and his fine goalscoring form, it seems a certainty he will get the chance to add more goals to his name against Manchester City on Sunday evening. Featured image Gabriel Kuchta via Getty Images
