Real Madrid Boss Ancelotti Addresses Links to Roma Job

Carlo Ancelotti didn’t shy away from the rumors linking him to a return to Roma next summer, where he spent time as a player, in an interview with Radio Anch’Io Lo Sport (via Calciomercato).

“It’s an honor and a pleasure for me to coach Real Madrid. Winning is never easy, but it’s a little less challenging here than in other clubs. Our goal is to reach the Champions League final, but our path has been rough so far. We have two games at our disposal to qualify. Liverpool have been the best team so far, but you have to be at your peak in March and April.”

Ancelotti mused on the Roma buzz.

“There’s a lot of chatter about it, but I’m fine here and I’m working to stay as long as possible. Claudio Ranieri is a friend and is doing very well. I’m happy for him. I’m very attached to the Giallorossi and have excellent memories of them. Still, there’s many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip. I’m not thinking about my future right now. I still have two years on my contract, but it can always be rescinded or prolonged.”

In addition to talking about Real Madrid and Roma, Ancelotti dished on some ongoing issues in football.

“The focus is on the number of games right now. The schedule is too demanding for players. We never practice anymore, but just recover. We can’t go on like this, with a match every three days, all year long. It puts the footballers’ health in danger.” “The VAR brought some advantages, but, when a call is subjective, there’ll always be discussions. It has helped the referees.
