Real Madrid make fresh contact with leading managerial target | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week again touched base with the entourage of Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso.

This, of course, comes amid mounting speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s potential arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Recent days have seen the situation on the Real Madrid bench return to the forefront of the headlines across all of Europe.

This comes amid the widespread understanding that, after his side’s alarming exit from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal, Carlo Ancelotti is inching towards the exit door in Spain’s capital.

Florentino Pérez and co, in turn, have been forced to kick back into gear their search for a summer replacement for the Italian.

And one name stands out above all others, as Los Blancos’ leading target: Xabi Alonso.

All of a Real persuasion will therefore no doubt be interested to learn of their side’s board initiating fresh contact with Bayer Leverkusen’s beloved headmaster.

As per a report from German football insider Florian Plettenberg:

‘Iñaki Ibáñez, the top advisor of Xabi Alonso, is said to have held talks with Real Madrid once again! Leverkusen are not surprised. Internally, Bayer 04 are awaiting Alonso’s decision: Real or stay!’
