Real Madrid appear to have lost faith in manager Carlo Ancelotti, with speculation over his future going into overdrive after defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final. Los Blancos struggled to trouble the Gunners at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it looks as if they will act sooner rather than later.

Reports on Thursday noted that if Ancelotti were to lose twice against Barcelona in the next five games, one of which being a Copa del Rey final, then he would be sacked before the end of the season with just three games to go. However Sky Sports, as carried by Sport, have gone a step further, and claimed that Ancelotti is considering leaving his position after the Copa final in Seville on the 26th of April.

Their information is that Ancelotti and his staff were sunk by the performance against Arsenal, and having circled the game as a final test of their team, feel as much as Real Madrid as if his time is up at the club. Los Blancos have already decided to dismiss Ancelotti, something he is awawre of, and they are already making moves to bring in their next coach.

Santiago Solari while in charge of Real Madrid

However that could well be Santiago Solari. The Director of Football, who previously oversaw a brief spell in charge in 2018-19, is being prepared to take over as interim boss note the Catalan daily. They do say that their information is that this would be at the end of the season, and before the Club World Cup. His knowledge of the squad and the temporary nature of the job make him the favourite.

Longer term, Los Blancos appeared set to make a move for Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. However over the past week, links to former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp have emerged, with the German coach supposedly open to talks with Real Madrid. At any rate, it appears Ancelotti’s days are numbered, and if Sky Sports’ report is accurate, he is down to his final three games in charge.
