Real Madrid send heartfelt wishes to Barcelona on 125th anniversary – ‘It is an honour’ | OneFootball

On the occasion of FC Barcelona’s 125th anniversary, La Liga champions Real Madrid sent out a heartfelt congratulatory message to their arch-rivals.

Real Madrid and Barça have shared a historic rivalry on the football pitch and things have not been on the best of terms between the two clubs off the field in recent times either.

Setting aside the rivalry, though, Real Madrid took to social media to congratulate Barcelona on their 125th anniversary, claiming that it is an honour to compete against them.

“Congratulations on your 125th anniversary, FC Barcelona. It is an honour for Real Madrid to compete with a great rival like you throughout our history,” the message from the Merengues read.

It is no secret that there exists a great amount of tension between the El Clasico rivals.

However, only a few days ago, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez spoke highly of Barcelona during the club’s general assembly and called for the two clubs to work together.

“Barça and Madrid have to help each other, I say this with total sincerity. We have to think that it is a club that is among the biggest in the world,” Perez said.

As for matters on the pitch, Real Madrid faced a defeat in the first El Clasico of the season last month at the Santiago Bernabeu.
