A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid on Monday overtook club icon Mesut Özil in the club’s goalscoring charts.
The player in question? Federico Valverde.
Uruguayan international Valverde was for his part afforded his latest start last night, as Real Madrid made the trip to minnows Deportiva Minera for a Copa del Rey clash.
And the 26-year-old went on to play a starring role, en route to an eventual 5-0 rout.
After opening the scoring courtesy of an acrobatic finish early on, Valverde went on to lay on an assist for Arda Güler, too.
And, as alluded to above, owing to such exploits, the all-action engine star has continued his climb up the all-time goalscoring charts in Spain’s capital.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of statisticians StatMuse that Valverde has now found the net 28 times in the colours of Real, once more than Mesut Özil.
