Real Madrid tracking 21-year-old former youth academy full-back – report | OneFootball

It is no secret at this point that Real Madrid are looking to reinforce their full-back positions in the summer of 2025.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the preferred target for the right-back position while Alphonso Davies is seen as the priority on the left side.

However, recent reports have suggested that the Merengues could consider walking away from their pursuit of Davies, which could force them to look for alternatives in the market.

Alvaro Carreras on the radars

To that end, A Bola (h/t SPORT) reports that Real Madrid are one of several big clubs tracking the progress of SL Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras.

Alvaro, 21, spent a few years in the Real Madrid youth academy before leaving for Manchester United in 2020.

Having failed to break into the first-team setup in England, the Spaniard signed for Benfica in January earlier this year, initially on loan, with the move being made permanent in the summer.

Alvaro has done fairly well for Benfica, racking up 21 appearances in which he has two goals and assists each across all competitions.

As per the report, Real Madrid are monitoring his progress, along with their arch-rivals Barcelona while Manchester United are also understood to be in the mix.

It is suggested that the two La Liga clubs might have an edge over the Premier League outfit, although it must be noted that both Real Madrid and Barça are looking at Davies as their preferred candidate at this point.

Whether they turn their focus concretely towards a summer move for 21-year-old Alvaro remains to be seen.
