AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has admitted that the team do not seem to start every game in the same way as they did the derby draw against Inter.
Milan were ultimately forced to settle for a point despite having led into the 93rd minute of the game at San Siro, with Stefan De Vrij popping up in the right place at the right time to earn Inter a draw.
It was probably what Simone Inzaghi’s side deserved though in truth, given that they had generated a lot of pressure in the second half and even hit the post three times after Tijjani Reijnders’ opener.
There were also positives for Milan to take too despite the late heartbreak, as the team defended a lot more resolutely as a unit and put a very high price on their goal.
Reijnders spoke to Sky and DAZN after the game against Inter and gave his thoughts on what was an action-packed contest, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
You are now the fifth-top scorer in Milan’s history…
“It’s special to play every game for this club. It’s fantastic, especially for all the Dutch players who played here before me. Unfortunately, the goal I scored wasn’t enough.”
After the bad performance in Zagreb, a much better game. How do you explain that?
“This is the mentality we have to bring to every game, we should only play games like this. We should do it more often, it would make our life easier. Today we fought but unfortunately we conceded a goal in the last minute.”

So will the team start from here to change mentality?
“We have to, we are not in a good position in the league and we have to show what we did today in every game.”
Were you too deep in the second half?
“Yes I think that was the problem in the second half, we dropped back too much and let them play. I think we should have pressed them higher to stay less deep.”
The team unity was there tonight…
“We didn’t play very well with the ball, we should have been calmer with possession: there were some opportunities, even on the counter-attacks. If we are calmer in these situations we could control the game better. Unfortunately that didn’t happen tonight.”
How did you find yourself without Fofana for the first time?
“A little different, but I do what the coach asks me: obviously I prefer to be higher up, normally Youssouf takes care of things in defence. Today I had to act more as a number 6 but it was only for this match.”
