Sky Germany reports that Rennes have had a bid rejected by VfB Stuttgart over a permanent deal for defender Anthony Rouault.

The 23-year-old has a contract at the MHP Arena until 2027 having only joined the club permanently last summer, following a loan from Toulouse. The defender is currently valued at €10m by transfermarkt.

Stuttgart plans to use Rouault in the future, which is why they rejected the bid but the defender is open to the possibility of a return to France.

Rouault has played 27 times for Stuttgart this season as they endured a tough start to the season but have finally been able to close the gap with the European places. However, they did crash out of the Champions League on Wednesday night with a tame performance in a 4-1 loss to PSG.

Centre-back is also a slight problem area for Stuttgart due to the injuries in the position as of late so keeping Rouault will be key if they wish to finish in a European place this season.
