Ansu Fati, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Pau Cubarsi, Marc Bernal, and Marc Casado are among the names who have gone on to make a big splash with FC Barcelona after coming through La Masia in recent years.

A majority of the aforementioned names are key players in the first-team squad at the moment and considering the amount of talent housed in the academy, there is no doubt that more players will make the jump in the near future.

Jofre Torrents – the next breakthrough star?

As such, SPORT highlights 17-year-old Juvenil A left-back Jofre Torrents as one such player who could be the breakthrough talent in 2025 for Barcelona.

Torrents has been at Barcelona since 2018 when the club signed him from Reus. He has played alongside the likes of Lamine, Bernal, Cubarsi, and Andres Cuenca in the youth divisions.

After overcoming the cruciate ligament injury that stalled his career last season, the 17-year-old has established himself in the Juvenil A starting XI and is showing why he is considered the best left-back prospect, alongside Pol Bernabeu, at La Masia.

Along with his excellent game-reading and distribution, Torrents also is a tall, fast, and strong defender who consistently makes good decisions.

A high-flying full-back, Torrents is a modern player who excels both in offensive and defensive play. He is aggressive defensively and skilled going forward.

Big future ahead

Barcelona believe that after his injury last season, the best option for Torrents is to continue rebuilding his form in the Juvenil A team, where he can enjoy more continuity and less pressure than he would in the B team.

However, if his development continues along this path, it is expected that he will get minutes with the B team this season.

From thereon, it is possible that he could be seen in next summer’s pre-season with the first team.

The situation with the senior team’s left-backs makes it plausible to imagine the youngster being tested under Hansi Flick’s watch.

Currently, Alejandro Balde is the starting left-back and Gerard Martin is his backup, with the latter failing to convince enough. As such, there could be an opening for Torrents, at least to make an impression during pre-season if he continues progressing at this rate.
