The 24-year-old has shown huge signs of improvement, and he’s added goals to his game this season under Enzo Maresca.

Atletico Madrid prepare first Fernandez offer

Fernandez earned praise for his man of the match performance in Argentina’s 4-1 win against Brazil earlier this week, and despite links to Real Madrid, he’s said to be a key part of the Chelsea project.

However, it was reported several players on international duty tried to persuade him to join Atletico, but Fernandez rejected those advances.

Despite the reported rejection Fichajes have reported the La Liga side are preparing their first offer for Fernandez.

The reports states Atletico will offer €30m plus Pablo Barrios, whilst Diego Simeone has identified Fernandez as the perfect player to improve his team next season.

Fichajes add Atletico’s biggest barrier will be negotiating a fee with Chelsea, but their interest in Fernandez is clear.

Chelsea have previously been linked with Barrios, but the chances of this reported player plus cash deal coming offer would seem slim.

Fernandez has really grown into his role at Chelsea and is now part of the club’s leadership group, whilst he’s captained the side on numerous occasions in the absence of Reece James.

The Argentina international is also having his best season numbers wise with five goals and nine assists from 35 appearances in all competitions.
