Liverpool have decided to offload Federico Chiesa in the January transfer window, with Napoli head coach Antonio Conte keen on a loan deal for the Anfield winger.
That is according to a report in FootMercato, which has claimed that Napoli will make a bid for the Italy international winger in the coming days.
The report has noted that Chiesa’s agents and Liverpool had a meeting last week. It was then decided that the Reds would let the former Fiorentina and Juventus winger leave on loan for the rest of the season and then bring him back to Anfield next summer.
Napoli head coach Conte is very keen on Chiesa. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has told his Italian club’s bosses to get a loan deal done for the 27-year-old winger this month.
The Serie A outfit will submit a six-month loan bid for the £120,000-a-week (The Athletic) winger in the coming days.
As harsh as it may sound, Liverpool are not going to miss Chiesa if he leaves Anfield on loan for the second half of the season.
Chiesa has had injury problems this season, and Liverpool have done well without the Italy international winger. The Reds could win the Premier League title as well as the UEFA Champions League.
The winger has played only 18 minutes in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has turned out for just a minute in the UEFA Champions League for Arne Slot’s side this campaign.
Even when fully fit and available, Chiesa is a squad player at best in Slot’s plans. It would make sense for the winger to move to Napoli, especially if Conte seriously wants him.
Napoli are aiming to win the Scudetto this season, and Chiesa’s experience in Serie A could help them become the champions of Italy.
