Sheffield Wednesday are interested in signing Louie Barry from Aston Villa, according to a report.

The Star has claimed that Wednesday are among the clubs who want to sign Barry on loan from Villa in the January transfer window.

Barry is on loan at Stockport County at the moment. Villa reportedly plan to recall the forward next month and then send him out on loan to a club at a higher level for the second half of the campaign.

Wednesday are keen on a loan deal for Barry, according to The Star, with the report adding that city rivals Sheffield United are also showing interest in the former West Bromwich Albion and Barcelona prospect.

View: Sheffield Wednesday could struggle to sign Louie Barry in January

It is not going to be easy for Wednesday to sign Barry on a loan deal from Villa in the January transfer window.

The Owls are not doing particularly well at the moment. They are not going to finish in the automatic promotion places in the Championship table this season.

Wednesday could even miss out on a playoff spot. They are five points behind sixth-placed Middlesbrough.

Villa may not be keen on sending Barry on loan to Wednesday when they have the option of loaning him out to a club like Leeds United. Sunderland, Burnley and Middlesbrough are also keen on the 21-year-old, who can play as a left winger, centre-forward or attacking midfielder.

Barry has scored 15 goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt) for Stockport this season. Earlier this month, the League One club’s manager Dave Challinor raved about the forward in IrelandLive, saying that the youngster “causes defenders real problems” with his ability to go both ways at the opposition with the ball at his feet.
