Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a significant double swoop in the Bundesliga, targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson. According to TeamTalk, Spurs are among several elite clubs closely monitoring the duo, with a combined price tag of around £100m.

Defensive instability has plagued Ange Postecoglou’s side this season, with long-term injuries to key players such as Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, and Cristian Romero leaving the backline vulnerable. Hincapie, valued at £58.3m, has long been admired by Tottenham, but previous interest has yet to materialise into a deal. Now, as competition for his signature intensifies, Spurs face a race to secure the Ecuadorian’s services.
Tottenham’s failure to sign Hincapie in previous windows now appears to be a regretful oversight. Since their initial interest, they have strengthened their defensive ranks with signings like Van de Ven and Dragusin, yet injuries have disrupted their backline’s consistency. TeamTalk reports: “Interest in Hincapie is said to be ‘piling up’ so getting him through the door could be an issue for Tottenham.”

Unlike some of Spurs’ existing defenders, Hincapie has enjoyed a relatively injury-free season, playing the full 90 minutes in most of Leverkusen’s matches. His arrival could offer the consistency that Tottenham’s backline has lacked in recent months.
Alongside Hincapie, Tottenham are also exploring a move for Hugo Larsson. The Swedish midfielder, currently at Frankfurt, has drawn interest from multiple top clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool. However, Frankfurt are keen to keep him, cautioning that his adaptation to a bigger club could take time due to previous muscular issues.

With a valuation of £41.6m, Larsson would bolster Spurs’ midfield, adding depth and quality in the centre of the park. While Tottenham are reportedly in the mix, they must compete with other Premier League giants if they hope to secure his signature.
The idea of bringing in both Piero Hincapie and Hugo Larsson could significantly elevate the squad, offering the defensive reliability and midfield dynamism that have been lacking at times this season.
Hincapie feels like a move that should have happened already. Watching Spurs struggle defensively, with injuries forcing constant reshuffles at the back, only strengthens the case for his signing. He’s young, composed, and crucially, durable—something Tottenham have desperately needed in their centre-back options. If they can finally land him, it would feel like rectifying a past transfer misstep.
Larsson, on the other hand, presents an intriguing midfield option. While muscular concerns are something to be mindful of, his technical ability and potential make him a worthy addition. Competing with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be tough, but if Spurs can pull off this deal, it could offer them a long-term solution in midfield.
Ultimately, these signings would indicate ambition. Spurs are on the brink of something promising under Postecoglou, and securing top Bundesliga talent would send a strong statement to the rest of the league. The question remains—will Tottenham act decisively, or will this be another case of ‘what could have been’?
