Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes that Casemiro is set to leave Man United.
The Brazilian had an impressive first season at Old Trafford but his influence has waned massively in the last two campaigns.
Despite a brief renaissance under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, Casemiro’s role has significantly diminished under Ruben Amorim.
He has only been involved in two of United’s last eight games and has only one start, in the 0-2 home defeat to Newcastle United.
This has led to immense speculation that Casemiro will leave Old Trafford this January window with Saudi Arabian teams seen as a likely destination.
Latest reports seem to suggest that a move to the Middle East is not as advanced as first thought but Rio Ferdinand believes that the player will certainly be on his way soon.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, he gave his two cents on the current situation involving the former Real Madrid star.
“I don’t think Casemiro will be happy,” Rio said. “At any point in his career he’s never been on the bench.”
Ferdinand highlighted that the 32 year old is so far down the pecking order that even the inexperienced Toby Collyer is getting minutes ahead of him in crucial moments, like the FA Cup victory at the weekend.
“So if he’s on the bench now, if an offer came in, he’d listen to it, but also the club, you can see now they are bringing on Toby Collyer.”
The former United man claimed that his old side would certainly be happy to part ways if a decent offer came in and he asserted that would be something that wouldn’t be difficult to pull off.
There is no doubt that the Red Devils would love a significant offer to arrive for Casemiro this month as his likely transfer fee and shedding his massive salary off the wage bill would do wonders for the club’s PSR problems and ability to spend in this window.
