The teenager has plenty of admirers and the Eagles have confirmed their interest
Crystal Palace have made contact with Millwall over a January deal for teenager Romain Esse.
Standard Sport first revealed in early December that Palace had discussed internally the possibility of signing the 19-year-old attacker.
Discussions in part centred around sending Esse back on loan to Millwall for the remainder of the season, which remains the Championship side’s strong preference if a deal is struck.
But Palace are looking to strengthen their options in attack and may request Esse stay at Selhurst Park for the second half of the season.

The Eagles’ sporting director, Dougie Freedman, has been to watch the England Under-20 international from the stands on multiple occasions this season, including on October 23 when Esse scored the winner against Plymouth.
There are other Premier League clubs also keeping tabs on Esse, who has a release clause in his Millwall contract.
Esse, who can play as an attacking midfielder or a winger, has scored five goals and provided one assist in 25 matches for Millwall in all competitions this season.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been given assurances that the club will sign two players this month, a left wing-back and a versatile attacker.
Opening bids have already been submitted for Slavia Prague wing-back El Hadji Malick Diouf and Liverpool winger Ben Doak, on loan at Middlesbrough, but both were rejected.
