Romano: ‘Summer move’ is now the ‘expectation’ for confirmed Man Utd target, he’s a ‘monster’

Manchester United are expected to be well in the mix to snap up sought-after Liam Delap when Ipswich Town’s relegation is set in stone.
It’s been nothing short of a hugely valiant effort from Kieran McKenna to retain the Tractor Boys’ Premier League status for another season but given that they’re 12 points from safety heading into tonight’s clash with Bournemouth, those involved with the club are now resigned to spending 2025/2026 in the Championship.
Unfortunately for the East Anglian outfit, it’s also set to spell the end of Delap’s Ipswich tenure. He has spent only one season at Portman Road following a £20 million move from Manchester City and has impressed so much that he now has a lengthy list of suitors waiting to submit their proposals towards the end of the term.

Assuming Ipswich do fall victim to the drop come May, their goalscoring talisman will be available for £40m due to a relegation clause included in his contract, meaning they stand to make a direct £20m profit after only 12 months. That being said, there’s no doubt they’d much rather keep hold of him long-term.
Chris Wheeler confirmed earlier this week that the likes of United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all monitoring the 22-year-old forward’s situation, with the latter holding the option of activating a buyback clause.
Additionally, Fabrizio Romano has today shared his understanding of the growing interest in Delap, telling GiveMeSport: “There are several clubs attentive to the situation, from Chelsea as they were already keen in January to Manchester United, who’ve added 4/5 names to the striker list and will also decide based on budget availability.
“The expectation is for a summer move, for sure.”
Delap, hailed as a ‘monster’ by Ipswich shot-stopper Alex Palmer, has notched 10 top-flight goals and two assists in 28 appearances this campaign.
