FC Barcelona had to suffer quite a painful night, both physically and emotionally, as Inter Milan beat them in the extra time of the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie with a 4-3 scoreline. The tie ended in a 7-6 aggregate score in favor of the Italians after the first leg had ended in a 3-3 draw.
Naturally, Hansi Flick was quite disappointed with his side’s elimination from the UCL, but he still recognised the amazing effort made by his team when he addressed press conference after the match.
Apparently, he did the same in his private talk with the players inside the dressing room. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, this was revealed by the defender Ronald Araujo, who spoke to the media after the game.
The Uruguayan defender revealed how Flick believed in the team’s ability to compete for the title next year as well:
“He told us he’s very proud of the team and that next year we’ll fight for the Champions League again.”
Araujo went on to reveal what Flick had to say about the seven goals conceded by his team in this tie:
“We conceded a lot. We stood up. It was a team the fans liked, but we have to review those plays.”

It is nice to see that Flick was not too harsh with the players and showed his confidence in the team to compete for the title once again next year.
Before that, Hansi Flick himself had shown pride in his players as he spoke to the press after the game in the following words:
“This team has earned the respect of all of Europe. We look in the mirror and are proud of our effort and our way of playing.”
Hopefully, with these words and his actions, Hansi Flick will be able to keep his side motivated, especially ahead of such an important game against Real Madrid, which can prove to be the decisive game for this league race.
