Manchester United secured a lucky point away from home against Ipswich Town on Sunday in what was Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge of the club.
It was the Red Devils who took the lead through Marcus Rashford but after that, it was all Ipswich as the hosts created numerous glorious chances and were unlucky to score only once.
Amorim had Andre Onana to thank for saving the team’s blushes and it is clear that quite a few players do not suit his 3-4-3 style and that it will take time for the Portuguese to work his magic.
However, there were certain changes in personnel both on the pitch and off it with The Daily Mail claiming that one of the few survivors from the Erik ten Hag era, Andreas Georgson had a reduced role against the Tractor Boys.
As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, only Darren Fletcher and the Swedish coach survived the mid-season cull with Georgson staying on partly due to Jason Wilcox’s input as well.
Brought in from Lillestrom as a set-piece coach, he was usually spotted barking instructions during both attacking and defending set-piece situations when Ten Hag was still in charge.
But as the report revealed, Amorim seemed to demote Georgson at Portman Road with assistant coaches Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido spotted instructing the players during every set-piece – both attacking and defending.
“It made for curious viewing at Ipswich to see set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson hand over the duties to the coaches brought in by Ruben Amorim.
“Although he has been kept on by Amorim and incorporated into his coaching staff, it appears set-pieces are no longer on his to-do list.
“Assistants Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido spent much of the pre-match warm-up overseeing drills, and every set-piece in-game – both attacking and defending – saw Fernandes bark instructions from the technical area.”
Whether this is a sign of things to come remains to be seen but the club have been quick to reveal that Georgson remains a vital part of the first-team coaching staff.
The report also added that new analyst Eduardo Rosalino was also spotted in the dugout on Sunday. There were doubts regarding his availability due to work permit concerns but he did receive it just in time for the game.
