One pundit has come out this week and truly ripped into Chelsea’s squad build that lacks leadership and has been a waste of money.

The Blues are making the headlines for all the wrong reasons right now after getting thrashed by Brighton on Friday night, a week after getting knocked out of the FA Cup fourth round against them.

Chelsea’s defeat against Brighton on Friday night has been named as the ‘worst performance’ under Enzo Maresca so far, and they are not wrong with that analysis at all.

There has been plenty of debate over who is to blame for how bad Chelsea are right now, with fingers being pointed at not just Maresca, but at the sporting directors who built this squad, as well as directly at the club owners. And the stats have backed up that all three have to share the blame right now.

It’s a sad state, and the amount Chelsea have spent on assembling the squad is rightfully being more than questioned now.

‘What a waste of money’

Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT.

This is the chant being sung by oppositions supporters at Chelsea games more often than not, and they’re not wrong…

Ex-Premier League winger Gabriel Agbonlahor has ripped apart the Chelsea squad build.

‘Look at some players they paid big money for and they’re just not performing,’ Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

‘Neto didn’t try to take his man on against Brighton. He came in for big-money. Madueke can be good one week, poor the next. Fernandez getting bullied in midfield.

‘There’s a lack of leadership and a lack of quality as well to be honest. It’s scary what they’ve spent and wasted.

‘Badiashile was £35m, we’ve not seen him play. Mudryk was a disaster of a signing. Enzo, Neto and Nkunku were all expensive. They spent £45m on Felix and then send him out on loan.

‘Look at the amount of money they’ve wasted.’
