The calendar for the 2025-26 Serie A season will be drawn up on June 6, while there are ‘other enticing alternatives’ to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana.
Lega Serie A President Ezio Maria Simonelli held a press conference today in which he covered several subjects with the media, including the controversy over rescheduled fixtures.
He also confirmed that they are eager to bring Italian football more in line with the Premier League, La Liga and others by confirming dates and kick-off times much earlier, seeing as they only confirmed the Week 36 games today.
That will include the drawing up of the calendar, which tended to happen only a month before the season was set to begin.
“We analysed the issue of international TV rights and this is an area where we really need to improve,” confessed Simonelli.
“There will be another Serie A assembly on June 6 and on that day we’ll draw up the calendar, as trying to bring things forward as much as possible is an objective. Unfortunately, we are often forced to delay announcing dates because of the Cup competitions, and we understand that is a problem for the fans.
“In future, we could indicate some games with an X, maybe confirming 7-8 out of 10 fixtures. It will be more difficult at the start, but we’ll try to give this information as soon as possible.”

We now know who will participate in the Supercoppa Italiana Final Four tournament, as Inter and Napoli will be the top two in Serie A, with Milan and Bologna both Coppa Italia Finalists.
However, it is not yet clear when or even where the competition will be played, although January 2026 is the most likely.
Saudi Arabia has the rights to host, but the organisers also have the option of turning it down, opening up other nations to take over.
“There are still two days before the option deadline, it is my impression that considering the four teams involved, it will be an appetising panel,” noted Simonelli.
“The choice is up to them, we’re counting on getting a response around April 30. We have some other enticing alternatives on the table, so whatever happens, we won’t make a drama out of it. I cannot name the alternatives, as there are privacy clauses.”
