Ante Rebic snatched a stoppage-time equaliser to keep Marco Giampaolo unbeaten on the Lecce bench, as Juventus fumbled their lead at the last minute.

The Bianconeri’s injury crisis intensified with nine first team players out, including Dusan Vlahovic, Nico Gonzalez, Weston McKennie, Nicolò Savona, Arek Milik, Douglas Luiz, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal, so Tim Weah was again a False 9. The hosts fired Luca Gotti and new coach Marco Giampaolo won 1-0 away to Venezia on his debut, but Lameck Banda, Kevin Bonifazi and Balthazar Pierret were out of action.

Juventus incredibly failed to open the scoring in the sixth minute after Kenan Yildiz burst down the left and flashed a ball across the six-yard box, where Khephren Thuram somehow managed to steer it onto the upright from point-blank range.

The Bianconeri hit the frame of the goal again on 16 minutes, as Francisco Conceicao intercepted a wayward pass in his own half, sprinted forward and unleashed a curler from distance that smacked against the far post.

Weah had the ball in the net on 25 minutes after Wladimiro Falcone’s save on Conceicao, but the offside flag went up earlier in the move for Manuel Locatelli.

Andrea Cambiaso and Mattia Perin had a misunderstanding that Patrick Dorgu almost pounced on in the six-yard box, while Locatelli sprinted back to block the Hamza Rafia counter and Perin smothered the Nikola Krstovic header on the resulting corner.

Krstovic and Dorgu angled drives also tested Perin, but the centre-forward fired wide from a Dorgu counter-attack.

Danilo ran the huge risk of a red card on 67 minutes when hauling down Krstovic in the centre-circle, but it was too far from goal to be considered a clear scoring opportunity and there was another Juventus defender nearby to give him a yellow.

Moments later, Juve rode their luck again because Cambiaso’s hopeful left-foot strike from distance took a massive deflection off Kialonda Gaspar to totally wrong-foot Wladimiro Falcone.

It was nearly 2-0 straight after, but Falcone got his fingertips to the Teun Koopmeiners daisy-cutter at the near bottom corner.

Pierre Kalulu managed to deflect the Krstovic chest and half-volley wide of the target and appeals for handball were rejected, as his arms were clamped behind his back.

There was a double Lecce opportunity in stoppages, as first Locatelli used his chest to charge down an effort, then Perin’s acrobatic one-handed save on the Rebic header was cancelled out by the offside flag.

Lecce were pouring forward and got their deserved equaliser deep into stoppages when Krstovic got down the left and rolled it across the face of goal for the Rebic tap-in from four yards. It is the third consecutive stalemate for Juventus in all competition.
