Simone Sozza will be in charge of tomorrow’s game between AC Milan and Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona; his seventh clash involving the Rossoneri.
The Italian Referees Association, also known as AIA, announced the designations for round 30 of Serie A on Wednesday this week. For the big game between Milan and Napoli, Simone Sozza will be the head referee, assisted by Francesco Meraviglia for VAR.
It will be Sozza’s seventh game involving Milan, having officiated them six times before in all competitions. The Rossoneri have four wins and two defeats with him, so overall a positive record, although the most recent one was a defeat (2-1 against Torino in February).
Sozza was also the referee for the Supercoppa Italiana final, in which a ‘controversial’ goal stood for Milan after what looked like a foul in midfield. The interesting thing to note here is that Sozza is actually from Milano and his family is believed to be Inter fans, but at least he has managed to keep things objective so far.
Milan are unbeaten in their last six away games against Napoli and could make it seven for the first time in their history. Adding the situation in the standings to this, a lot is riding on tomorrow’s game indeed.
