Slot Responds to PSG Comments on Liverpool’s Quality

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has refused to be drawn into a war of words after reports emerged that PSG players were unimpressed by his side’s performance in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. As the two teams prepare to meet again at Anfield, Slot has played down suggestions that Bayern Munich and Arsenal are stronger than Liverpool.

PSG’s View on Liverpool’s Performance

The first leg in Paris saw Liverpool edge a 1-0 victory, despite PSG dominating possession and peppering the Reds’ goal with over 25 shots. According to reports, some PSG players expressed surprise at how much control they had against Liverpool and suggested that Arsenal and Bayern Munich were more complete teams than Slot’s side.

The remarks hinted at a perceived lack of quality in Liverpool’s approach, particularly given the narrow victory achieved with their first shot on target. It was an assertion that could easily have ruffled feathers at Anfield, but Slot took a measured approach in response.

Slot’s Reaction to PSG Criticism

Speaking ahead of the second leg, Slot acknowledged PSG’s strengths but dismissed the importance of their comments:

“Some of them have said Arsenal and Bayern were better, from what I have heard.”

“PSG improved a lot in these two or three months, and they played away. I saw both of those games, PSG have improved a lot.”

Slot pointed out the tactical changes Luis Enrique’s side has made, particularly their increased intensity and pressing game. He admitted that PSG are the most complete team Liverpool have faced this season:

“They press all over the pitch now, so they have changed. And yeah, it’s up to them how they felt. I cannot influence what they felt. Don’t even know if it is true or not. I am hoping they have a different opinion tomorrow.”

Liverpool Focused on the Return Leg

Despite Liverpool’s victory in the first leg, Slot is well aware of the challenge that PSG pose. The Ligue 1 giants boast an abundance of quality, and their work rate under Luis Enrique makes them a difficult team to contain.

“This is the most complete team we’ve faced so far. Of course, we have played Arsenal, Real, and Man City, but the quality PSG have is probably the richest club. They have so much quality with a great coach, he lets them play in a way that is not easy to play against, work-rate is incredible. That is why we have to be at our best tomorrow.”

Slot knows that Anfield will play a crucial role, and Liverpool will need to rise to the occasion if they are to progress in Europe’s biggest competition.
