After having renewed the contracts of several of their players, the next FC Barcelona player in line to see his contract extended will be the striker Robert Lewandowski, who has already played the stipulated number of games that promise him a one-year extension.

However, the Polish striker is already 36 years of age, and the Catalans understand that they will have to find a long-term successor for him sooner or later. As a result, they are being linked with several interesting names for this role.

One of the most prominent of these names linked with the Blaugranes has been the Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old Swedish international has been one of the most exciting forwards in the Premier League this season, and it is easy to understand why Barcelona are interested in him.

However, getting him will not really be easy, as the Magpies have slapped a price tag of €110 million on him, which is out of budget for the Catalans at this point in time.

In such a context, Fichajes reports that the Blaugrana side has still not given up on his pursuit, and are considering two alternate formulas to sign him.

Firstly, they are thinking of offering only €65 million upfront, while hoping to get the rest of the €45 million deferred over the coming few years, which would make the signing more viable for Barcelona.

Secondly, they are also looking to make two of their current players a part of a deal for Isak. One of these players will be loaned to Newcastle United for a year, while the other will join the English side permanently.

This will also help the Catalans get their desired target without impacting their financial stability too much. There is no doubt that Isak’s addition will be a significant boost for the Barcelona attack. However, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle United will accept these terms.
