GiveMeSport has published a new report that features Southampton's The Dell stadium among the 10 smallest stadiums in Premier League history.
Southampton FC, one of the oldest clubs in the Premier League, boasts a divine history that dates back to its founding in 1885. Over the years, the Saints have become a cornerstone of English football, with a sacred legacy deeply tied to their home grounds.
The club has played in four stadiums throughout its history. Those being namely, The Antelope Ground, County Cricket Ground, The Dell and the current homeground, The St. Mary’s.
Among them, The Dell served as Southampton’s home for over a century, witnessing some of the club’s most iconic moments. One of them being the 1975/76 FA Cup triumph, a shock 1-0 win against Manchester United that still remains one of the biggest achievements by a non-Premier League team in the Cup competition.
Last month, Southampton also paid a tribute to The Dell by naming a new St. Mary's stadium pub in their honor, The Dell. Apart from that, The Dell holds a significant place in the Premier League records as well.
According to a report by GiveMeSport, Southampton's Dell stadium is the all-time fourth smallest stadium in the Premier League, in terms of capacity.
Bournemouth's current Vitality Stadium tops the list with a 11,307 capacity, nearly 700 less capacity than second placed Luton Town. Alongside Bournemouth and Southampton, Brentford are the third current Premier League team in this list, ranked seventh with a 17,250 capacity at their GTech Community stadium.
In contrast to The Dell, The St. Mary's is a huge stadium with an enormous 32,384 capacity and offers various state of the art hospitality programs to Southampton's as well as the visiting club fans. Still, the Saints aim to replicate their previous success at their new homeground, and a great opportunity lies in the January transfer window.
In terms of transfers, star player Aaron Ramsdale is attracting transfer interest from Premier League club Newcastle. A new goalkeeper could join Southampton if the Ramsdale deal to Newcastle goes through.
