According to a report from Foot Mercato, Southampton have reached an agreement with Stade Rennais for Albert Grønbæk (23). The Danish midfielder is set to join the Premier League side on loan but with an option to buy. Foot Mercato further adds that the player has also reached an agreement with Southampton over personal terms.
L’Équipe disagrees somewhat with their French colleagues. They report that an agreement in principle has been reached between all parties, and add that it will be a loan with an option to buy for €15 million.
The Danish attacking midfielder only arrived over the summer as a replacement for Benjamin Bourigeaud (31). However, in those six months, he has struggled to fill the creative vacuum left by the former player having only scored twice and assisted once during his 18 games.
It became clear that his time at the club had come to an end when Jorge Sampaoli revealed in a press conference on Friday that Grønbæk had handed in a transfer request.
