Southampton would let go of loanee Albert Gronbaek beyond this season. As is being tipped, the Saints wouldn't utilize their permanent buy option for the 23-year-old.
Know what's the key difference between Southampton's golden mid-2010s era and now? It's been their approach towards their transfer recruits, that has gone quite casual lately.
After all, there's a reason why success stories like that of Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane feel scarce at St. Mary's these days.
Don't agree with this? Then, consider for instance the situation of the Saints' recent winter window signings, Welington and Albert Gronbaek.
To note, Welington after a few brilliant appearances has been sidelined to the bench lately. But if this concerned you, Gronbaek's case would definitely turn you against boss Ivan Juric.
You might know of the 23-year-old's recent brilliant Anfield show. Still, what he got rewarded with was a sideline to the bench again. Hey, but that's not all.
While till now, there have been rumours of boss Juric's distrust of the Danish prodigy, it has been confirmed now.
How? As per Ouest-France(via Sport Witness), Southampton will not keep ties with Gronbaek after this summer. This is because the Saints prefer not to activate the €15m permanent buy option of the attacker's loan deal.
Now, certainly, the high price for Gronbaek's signing may be a reason, still, none can deny that Southampton has failed him so far.
Given how he has performed for the Saints, just 4 appearances don't justify his talent. At least, the Danishman's all-round performance against Liverpool feels undervalued.
Factor in Southampton's unjumbled front three, Gronbaek's poorly managed game time leaves a bad taste among the fans. One, that raises doubts about the Saints not pushing enough for a relegation turnaround.
Ultimately, curtains already appear to be drawing out on Gronbaek's St. Mary's career. Finally, let's hope that the versatile forward wins the trust of his managers at his future destinations.
