The Spanish national team federation have on Wednesday risked the wrath of those in a position of power at Barcelona.

This comes amid confirmation that Pau Cubarsí has been called up to the country’s senior squad.

Defender Cubarsí was for his part not included in Luis de la Fuente’s original Spanish squad for the November international break.

This came in an effort to afford the 17-year-old a needed rest, after he suffered a nasty facial injury during a recent Champions League outing against Red Star Belgrade.

De la Fuente himself admitted late last week that ‘risks should not be taken’ with Cubarsí, who has since been fitted with a facial mask.

Safe to say, then, that the Barcelona brass are likely to have been left perplexed on Wednesday afternoon.

This comes with Cubarsí having been drafted into the ranks of the European champions at the last minute.

After Aston Villa star Pau Torres was forced to withdraw through injury, Barca’s defensive prodigy was the man chosen to replace him, as confirmed in a statement released a short time ago:

‘Pau Cubarsí will join the Spanish national team this afternoon to play the last two qualifying matches of the UEFA Nations League. The defender will join the rest of the team at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas and will train with the team tomorrow before travelling with the expedition to Denmark. ‘
