According to a report from media outlet GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma will be allowed to leave the club upon the completion of the 24/25 campaign.
They state that there is nothing to indicate that the player’s contract is going to be extended – so with one year left on his deal from this summer, it feels like the right time to cash in on him.
Furthermore, they state that Olympique Marseille, OGC Nice, and Crystal Palace are all “interested in securing his signature”. A move to either of the first two sides would see a return to Ligue 1, seven years after departing the league to join Brighton and Hove Albion, with whom he stayed at for four years before joining Spurs in the summer of 2022.
For a whole host of reasons, it has not worked out for Bissouma in North London. You could argue he didn’t get enough of a chance under Antonio Conte, but he has had plenty of chances under Ange Postecoglou, and he just hasn’t been consistent enough, or anywhere even close in truth.
We saw at the beginning of Ange’s time in charge what he is capable of. At his best, a serious physical specimen, who is excellent on the ball, and able to be a pest out of possession when pressing sides. However, those performances have simply been few and far between.
At his worst, he is a liability both on and off the ball, prone to losing the ball in his own third, as well as getting sent off for something completely needless and avoidable – for example getting sent off for a second yellow card after diving against Luton Town, back in October of 2023.
With twelve months left, it is absolutely the right time to cash in. If Spurs can get something around the £25m they paid for Bissouma, then that would be a good deal. Somewhere around £15-20m would be fine at this point.
It is interesting that they mention Crystal Palace as one of the two sides, given Spurs’ interest in Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. Perhaps we could see Bissouma used as a sweetener in any deal? That may be required, given you would expect Oliver Glasner’s side will demand a serious fee for the very talented 20-year old.
