AC Milan have played 23 games so far this season and while they are expected to play over 50 in total, it’s still a good sample size.

Starting with the most basic stats, Milan are eighth in the Serie A table after 17 games played, with seven wins, six draws, four defeats, 26 goals scored and 17 conceded.

In the Champions League the Rossoneri have played six games and have 12 points deriving from four wins and two defeats. They have scored 12 goals in the competition and have allowed nine.

Beyond that though, let’s take a look at the team leaders in various different categories thus far in the 2024-25 campaign (across all competitions).

Goals

1. Tijjani Reijnders – 9 2. Christian Pulisic – 8 3. Rafael Leao – 6 4. Tammy Abraham – 5 5. Alvaro Morata – 5

It is perhaps somewhat of a surprise to see Reijnders topping the list after he scored only four goals in the entirety of his debut season, but the Dutchman has taken his form to new heights.

It is less of a surprise to see four forwards make up the rest of the list, including Pulisic topping the charts with his fellow 2023 summer signing.

Assists

  • Youssouf Fofana – 6
  • Rafael Leao – 5
  • Christian Pulisic – 5
  • Tammy Abraham – 3
  • Tijjani Reijnders – 2

Some familiar names popping up from the attacking department once again. Leao and Pulisic have remained among the chief creators, but Fofana leads things from a deeper midfield position, and Abraham has done well given his lack of starts.

Yellow cards

1. Alvaro Morata 7 2. Youssouf Fofana – 6 3. Fikayo Tomori – 4 4. Emerson Royal – 4 5. Matteo Gabbia – 4 6. Theo Hernandez – 3

Four defenders make up the list when it comes to yellow cards, with Tomori being maybe the more surprising name having not had many minutes recently. In terms of red cards, the three players to get them are: Reijnders, Theo and Davide Bartesaghi.

Minutes played

1. Mike Maignan – 2030 2. Tijjani Reijnders – 1875 3. Youssouf Fofana – 1872 4. Theo Hernandez – 1624 5. Rafael Leao – 1529

It is no shock to see the starting goalkeeper lead the list, but it does show how much Milan rely upon the midfield double pivot and the left flank, even with Theo and Leao having been benched at different stages.

Substitute appearances

1. Samuel Chukwueze – 11 2. Yunus Musah – 10 3. Noah Okafor – 10 4. Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 9 5. Tammy Abraham – 9

It’s always interesting to discover who a coach tends to turn to most to change the game in some way, and it is clear the ‘reserves’ that Fonseca trusts most. Interestingly, Francesco Camarda is in sixth having come off the bench seven times.

Shots (on target)

  • Rafael Leao – 44 (22)
  • Tijjani Reijnders – 43 (19)
  • Samuel Chukwueze – 35 (8)
  • Christian Pulisic – 34 (17)
  • Theo Hernandez – 29 (7)

What is quite striking is how close to 50% accuracy the leading shooters are in the Milan squad, with the exception of Chukwueze who many would agree has been wasteful. For reference, Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham sit below Theo when it comes to shot attempts, which is somewhat strange.

Pass completion

  • Fikayo Tomori – 93.6%
  • Malick Thiaw – 93.4%
  • Matteo Gabbia – 91.5%
  • Filippo Terracciano – 89.6%
  • Tijjani Reijnders – 88.7%

There was a qualifying caveat for this which was that only players that completed 100 or more passes were counted, otherwise, Bartesaghi, Zero and Bennacer would have made the cut. It isn’t much of a surprise to see centre-backs dominate, given the nature of possession.

Tackles

  • Emerson Royal – 39
  • Youssouf Fofana – 32
  • Theo Hernandez – 27
  • Christian Pulisic – 23
  • Strahinja Pavlovic – 20

Interceptions

  • Emerson Royal – 20
  • Tijjani Reijnders – 19
  • Youssouf Fofana – 18
  • Theo Hernandez – 17
  • Fikayo Tomori – 14

The top three for the two categories above tells a story about the amount they have played and their combative natural at full-back and in midfield, while Pulisic being high up for tackles shows how important he is in pressing and counter-pressing.
