Swansea City and Huddersfield Town are both keen on Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington ahead of the January transfer window.

It's just a month now until the window opens, with Fleetwood set to field interest in their goalkeeper from League One, Huddersfield and Championship, Swansea.

Football Insider report that both the Swans and the Terriers are keeping close tabs on the 24-year-old with the transfer window just around the corner.

The report added that the goalkeeper's current club are eager to retain his services, having signed him from Irish outfit Cork City back in January 2023, but are bracing themselves for transfer interest from clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Harrington made just one appearance for the Fishermen last season, as the club faced relegation from League One to League Two, but maintained a clean sheet during a surprise 3-0 victory over Burton Albion on the final day of the campaign.

Swansea and Huddersfield target has been a class act this season

Despite making just one third tier outing for the Fishermen last term, Harrington is a quality goalkeeper, who played for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s.

He was called up to the Ireland senior squad last summer, and was an unused substitute during both a 2-1 triumph over Hungary, and a 3-0 defeat for his former nation in Hungary.

The ex-Cork man has subsequently changed his international allegiance to Wales, and was called up to Craig Bellamy's Nations League squad during the November international break, which epitomises how well he has been performing in League Two this season.

In fact, while the Fishermen sit five points below the play-off places, ahead of Saturday lunchtime's clash with Colchester United, Harrington has kept an impressive total of six clean sheets in just 14 appearances.

Furthermore, he also won a point for the Lancashire outfit last month, when he saved Bryn Morris' penalty during a 0-0 draw with Newport County.

Drawing with the Exiles, who sit 16th in the League Two table, but level on points with the Fishermen, was far from Fleetwood's best result of the season to date, but Harrington's penalty-saving exploits may have played a role in interest from both the Championship Swans and the League One Terriers.

As is increasingly important for modern day shot-stoppers, the 24-year-old also boasts good distribution, and has maintained a pass accuracy of 63.5%, while also playing 96 accurate long balls in the fourth tier this term, as per FotMob.

Harrington may want to stay at Fleetwood

While the goalkeeper has made big steps into the international game, with senior call-ups to both the Ireland and Wales squads to his name, he is still yet to make an appearance at senior level for the Welsh, who he has now chosen to represent.

Interest in his services from both the Championship Swans, and a Terriers side who are vying for an immediate return to the second tier is undoubtedly a healthy endorsement of Harrington's ability.

However, the current season marks his first as the Fishermen's regular first-choice between the sticks, and he must bear his game time in mind when it comes to deciding his next move.

His prospects of receiving further international call-ups will surely remain higher if he stays with his current club for now, rather than moving to the Swans, where he would face stern competition from current number one Lawrence Vigoroux, while he would face a similar situation with Jacob Chapman and Lee Nicholls at Huddersfield.
