Now that Ruben Amorim is officially at the reins and relatively settled in the Manchester United hot seat, he’s got some significant decisions to make regarding players’ expiring contracts.
There are currently six Reds all seeing out what could well be their final seasons at Old Trafford: Amad Diallo, Christian Eriksen, Tom Heaton, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire. Of the sextet, only Amad and Maguire have one-year options that can be activated in the coming months.
Each player will be able to open talks with foreign clubs in January, with the likes of Eriksen and Lindelof already being linked with moves across Europe, having accepted that their United tenures are approaching their end. As for Heaton and Evans, they’re likely mulling over whether to continue their professional careers altogether.

Work has begun behind the scenes to ensure one Red doesn’t slip away, though. According to reports relayed by TNT Sports, United have initiated ‘talks’ with Amad in hopes of tying him down to a long-term deal.
Such news will come as no surprise to supporters, as the Ivorian has enjoyed a scintillating start to the term, which has left the Old Trafford faithful revelling in his potential.
The 22-year-old, hailed as ‘sensational’ by Jason Cundy earlier this season, has returned three goals and three assists in his 18 appearances thus far. In mid-November, Amad had created more chances (18) than any of his counterparts in the squad despite playing only 700 minutes.
He put in another stellar shift when operating from a wingback role in Amorim’s first match vs Ipswich Town last Sunday, completing five of his attempted take-ons, five clearances and one big chance – the most of any player on the pitch. The Ivorian also recorded the second-most regular chances created (two) and second-most fouls won (two), per StatmanDave.
There’s no doubt that Amad is poised to play an instrumental role in the project Amorim is building.
