Who remembers when 30 was deemed the start of a footballer’s decline? Not anymore. The three leading scorers in Europe’s top five leagues this season are all in their thirties, while there’s plenty of talent in that age bracket right among the goals.

We’ve ranked the highest scoring players aged 30 and above in Europe’s top five leagues.

5. Ante Budimir – Osasuna (15)

Ante Budimir has been one of football’s late bloomers. The Croatian centre-forward did not feature in a top-five European league until the age of 27, but has recorded four La Liga seasons with 10+ goals since.

The 33-year-old striker has netted 15 times in La Liga this season to keep Osasuna clear of relegation trouble. Budimir leads La Liga for penalties scored (7) and ranks third for aerial duels won (114).

4. Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest (18)

Chris Wood is having some season at Nottingham Forest. The New Zealand international has been a reliable – if unfashionable – centre-forward choice in recent Premier League seasons but is earning his plaudits now.

The 33-year-old has scored 18 league goals in the Premier League this season, with only three players having managed more. His prolific form has fired Nottingham Forest into contention for Champions League qualification and represents the best return of his career.

Wood has now reached 10+ goals in a Premier League campaign in six separate seasons and has 87 in his top-flight career in England – level with Dennis Bergkamp. He’s closing in on becoming the first Oceanic footballer to reach 100 in the division.

3. Harry Kane – Bayern Munich (22)

Harry Kane can’t stop scoring in a Bayern Munich shirt and last season became only the second Englishman to win the European Golden Shoe.

He’s netted 22 times in 25 games in the Bundesliga this season, the eighth 20+ league campaign of his club career. Kane has now scored 77 goals in just 83 appearances for Bayern and is closing in on the elusive silverware that prompted his German move.

2. Robert Lewandowski – Barcelona (25)

Robert Lewandowski continues to age like a fine wine. Despite approaching his 37th birthday, Lewandowski has shown few signs of slowing down. He’s La Liga’s leading scorer this season with 25 goals, the best return of his Barcelona career.

The veteran is battling with Kylian Mbappe (22) for the Pichichi Trophy and also targeting a third European Golden Shoe. Only Lionel Messi (6) and Cristiano Ronaldo (4) have won that accolade more than twice.

1. Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (27)

Mohamed Salah is the leading scorer in Europe’s top five leagues and proving that age is just a number.

The 32-year-old is in the midst of an all-time season for Liverpool, who sit 12 points clear in the Premier League thanks largely to Salah’s exploits. Currently six goals ahead of Erling Haaland, a Golden Boot this season would equal Thierry Henry’s divisional record (4).

Salah is also the leading assist provider in Europe with 17 goals created for his Liverpool teammates. It’s been a magical campaign from the Egyptian King.
