Manchester City take on Nottingham Forest tomorrow evening in a crucial Premier League fixture at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s side will be desperate to pick three points to end their seven-game winless run. But a tough test awaits them at the Etihad. Nuno Nuno Espírito Santo’s side enter tomorrow’s match sitting sixth after an impressive start to the season. But a quick look at their squad shows the threat they will pose to the world champions will be a familiar one.

Nottingham Forest have been impressive so far this season. To sit sixth in the Premier League after 13 games doesn’t happen by accident. As Pep Guardiola touched on during his pre-game press conference earlier today, there is a lot of power and quality in the Forest squad. That will need to be contained for Manchester City to prosper tomorrow. But a threat that has caused City considerable heartache in recent weeks does loom large.

Nottingham Forest’s side does possess pace and quality, especially up front. Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jota are all lightning-quick. They are also technically gifted players who could exploit Manchester City’s high defensive line at the Etihad. Teams have got at City’s high line in recent games. It has been a huge weakness for the world champions in their winless run. If Chris Wood starts for Forest his ability to hold up the ball and feed Forest’s wingers could add another element to the threat of Forest’s pace out wide.

Pep Guardiola’s side must be ready for the threat that Nottingham Forest will bring to the Etihad. It may well decide the game. If the same frailties that have cost City in recent games show themselves tomorrow night the champions may pay a heavy price.

All that matters for Manchester City right now is their next game. That comes tomorrow night against Nottingham Forest. All it may take is a win for Pep Guardiola’s side to get back on track. But a familiar threat lies in wait for the world champions at the Etihad tomorrow night. How they contain it may well dictate if they do end their winless run or if it continues on.
