Liverpool boss Arne Slot has indirectly mentioned Chelsea when talking about the title race heating up this weekend with both sides playing today.
Chelsea go away to Everton in their next match this afternoon in the 2pm kick off Premier League match, and Liverpool actually come to London to face Tottenham in their next Premier League match for the last 4.30pm kick off game.
Chelsea could temporarily go top of the league with two games in hand of Liverpool if they beat Everton today. They could stay there too for a little bit longer if Tottenham did The Blues a favour and beat Liverpool this afternoon.
Enzo Maresca continues to refuse to allow any title talk for Chelsea even despite the fact that they sit in second place in the league. Many pundits, including Chelsea fan Paul Merson this weekend, are saying that actually Chelsea are very much in this title race right now.
Slot also believes Chelsea are in it, and points at the amount of money they have spent. He directly mentions Chelsea’s name in his latest comments.
Slot speaks on being successful
“This is what this league table makes interesting now is that there’s one team who didn’t do anything during the summer, except for Chiesa, who hasn’t played for us at the minute, and there’s one team that’s spent what they’ve spent and both are successful,” said the Reds boss in quotes cited by The Daily Mirror.
“I think it’s good for everyone that we are at the moment, competing right up there. It’s not only given to the ones that spent numerous amount of money, but you can also be successful if you just stay with the team you have and look at your academy.
“I think there are several ways of being successful and that it’s also nice and there’s also an identity to first look at your players, or to first look at your academy and see what that brings. That makes football such an entertaining world, that you can be successful in different ways.
“Now maybe the owners might think, ‘OK, so the best thing to do is bring no players in at all’,” he smiled. “Maybe I should be happy with how Chelsea do at the moment and I can tell the owners, ‘yeah, but if you bring in £1.2billion, it’s also a possibility to be successful’.”
