Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou insists Ruben Amorim will eventually prove his worth at Manchester United if given the required time and support.

The two wounded clubs will lock horns on Sunday afternoon in North London. Spurs currently find themselves in a miserable 14th place in the Premier League standings, while the Red Devils are only two points ahead of their next foes in 13th place.

Therefore, the two managers can certainly feel for one another. Although Amorim insisted he’s facing more pressure than his colleague due to United’s bigger status, he revealed himself as a fan of the Australian tactician.

‘Big Ange’ also had kind words towards the Portuguese, believing he has what it takes to make it at Carrington. The Spurs head coach thus lambasted those who have been expecting immediate results from Amorim, describing them as detached from reality.

“I’ve got respect for all managers because I know how tough it is,” said Postecoglou in his pre-match press conference via Sky Sports.

“But I’m sure if you asked Ruben, he would say he’s doing what he was brought in to do. They’ve scouted him, identified him as the way he plays, the way he goes about his business. You don’t make these appointments because you like the look of someone, you do a lot of work and you bring him in with a purpose.

“Now if anyone believes that could change significantly in a short space of time, they’re living in an alternate universe not based in reality.”

Hence, the 59-year-old believes the Red Devils will reap the rewards if they trust his younger colleague with the role for another two years.

“Who am I to advise anybody? But if Man Utd stuck with Ruben for the next two years, they’d see progress absolutely because that’s how long it takes.

“If someone can show me someone who has done it quicker without significant investment, by all means, put it across my desk and I’ll follow that blueprint.”
