Lazio stars Manuel Lazzari and Nuno Tavares are reportedly pushing to make their return to action this weekend against Monza.
The 31-year-old Italian missed the last three Serie A fixtures with a knee problem, while the Portuguese picked up a muscle injury during the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad. But according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the two full-backs could be available to start in Sunday’s league contest against the Biancorossi who reside at the very bottom of the Serie A table.
So with the two main full-backs back in the fold, Marco Baroni has averted a full crisis. The manager has recently decided to omit Luca Pellegrini from his Serie A squad list, so the latter won’t be eligible to play. Moreover, Elseid Hysaj (who practically replaced Pellegrini on the list) has been ruled out by a medium-grade thigh injury.
In the next few days, the technical staff will keep a close eye on Tavares and Lazzari, monitoring their conditions to make sure they’re able to start Sunday’s contest. Adam Marusic represents a viable alternative on both flanks, while Mario Gila can be considered an emergency right-back, but this is a solution Baroni would prefer to avoid.
The club’s January signings Arijon Ibrahimovic, Reda Belahyane and Oliver Provstgaard should all be in the matchday squad, but none of them is likely to start. The same goes for Toma Basic who surprisingly earned him way back to the Serie A squad.
