Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing David Hancko in the January transfer window.
That is according to Sky Sports, which has reported that Tottenham made checks on the Feyenoord and Slovakia international centre-back.
Spurs were looking to sign a new central defender in the January transfer window before they secured the services of Antonin Kinsky.
The North London outfit made checks on Olivier Boscagli of Feyenoord as well and are now looking for a new forward to add to their squad for the second half of the season and beyond.
Tottenham, linked with Brian Brobbey, have two of the best centre-backs in the Premier League in Cristian Romero and Micky van der Ven.
When fit and available, Romero and van der Ven are two of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet.
However, the two defenders have had injury problems. While Radu Dragusin is still young at 22 and can develop as a player, his performances have not been particularly great.
Archie Gray has had to play at centre-back for Tottenham on some occasions this season, and he is a midfielder who did well at right-back for Leeds United last season.
Hancko is 27 now and is at the top of his game. The Slovakia international has been on the books of Feyenoord since 2022 and could feel that he is ready for a move to a top club in the Premier League like Tottenham.
Moreover, Hancko is rated very highly and is considered good enough to play for the likes of Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.
Former Feyenoord and Netherlands international left-back Tim de Cler said about Hancko on SoccerNews in June 2024. “He is so stable and can basically do anything. I just think he is a top defender all-round.
“I think he can easily handle a club just below the top six in Europe. Then I’m talking about a club like Atlético Madrid or Liverpool. He can certainly handle that.”
If Tottenham do not reignite their interest in Hancko now, then they should make a bid for him in the summer of 2025, as his presence in the squad would only be a good thing.
