Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Brentford over a potential deal for striker Yoane Wissa, according to Foot Mercato.

The North Londoners are hoping to get a deal over the line before the transfer window closes on February 3.

Spurs are having an abysmal season, languishing in 15th place on the Premier League table, just eight points above 18th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With the prospect of getting drawn into a relegation battle looking increasingly likely, manager Ange Postecoglou is desperate to strengthen his squad within the next few days.

A lengthy list of injury issues has played a huge role in Tottenham’s downward spiral this season, particularly in the forward areas.

Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, and skipper Son Heung-Min have all spent time on the sidelines at different points, leaving Postecoglou short on attacking firepower.

While Richarlison and Son have returned to the fold, Spurs are still without Odobert and Solanke, with the latter set to spend the next six weeks on the sidelines.

Tottenham also have similar issues in defence, but addressing the frontline has become the club’s primary objective.

Wissa has emerged as a serious target, but Brentford won’t make it easy for their capital rivals.

The Bees have already turned down a £22 million bid from Nottingham Forest earlier in the window, so Spurs will have to significantly better that offer to stand a chance.

Wissa is valued at €28m(£23.4m) on Transfermarkt, but Brentford will likely demand more for their talisman.

Fortunately for Spurs, Wissa’s contract with Brentford is set to expire in the summer of 2026, so the Bees could be open to negotiations.

Postecoglou has been actively searching for attacking reinforcements throughout the window.

The club has also entered talks with Southampton over young prospect Tyler Dibling and are reportedly showing interest in Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.
