Over the past summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain sought a central defender and secured Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Parisians paid €40 million for the Ecuadorian as the capital club continues to inject more youth into the central defense. Nonetheless, another center-back was also on their list.
Gastón Edul of TyC Sports recently shared that Cristian Romero drew attention from PSG, Real Madrid, and Manchester United over the summer. There’s no set asking price, but Transfermarkt puts Romero’s value at €65 million.
However, Tottenham Hotspur stood their ground and made it clear they weren’t willing to let him leave.
Moreover, Football Insider now reports that Spurs are planning to offer Romero a new contract to deter interested clubs. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s current deal expires in 2027, so there are still two more years after this season.
Still, it seems the North London club are not taking any risk and wants to ensure that they keep the Argentine for the foreseeable future. Romero joined Spurs in 2022 and has made 102 appearances, scoring seven goals and registering one assist.
