Football can be made much better or worse based on the context of things, and AC Milan are losing their own battles repeatedly against themselves.

A loss in the Champions League knockouts will always hurt, but if there was confidence being bred around the result, there would be a feeling of inevitability for the return leg. For Milan though, it is almost a fear of dread.

The Rossoneri have been on a rollercoaster this season, and Tuttosport (via Milan News) write how they have never really gotten off it. A season filled with ups and downs, but not the enjoyable ones, rather the ones where the highs are met with the wavering fears of when is the drop coming.

Losing in Rotterdam has further deepened the drop, and whilst the rise is not too high, there is a fear that the Diavolo have already stamped their exit.

By all accounts, this should have been Milan’s game to lose – facing a team in poor form with a new head coach. Instead, the side showed ‘the same shortcomings’ as it has done for much of the season.

Ultimately, it is a team going nowhere and whilst Conceicao is desperate in his attempts to overturn this team, his support already seems to be fading.
