Manchester United played out an entertaining 2-2 draw against arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League yesterday.
The Red Devils produced a solid performance in the derby. They commanded 47 percent of possession and did not look overawed by the occasion.
The club had to deliver a good defensive showing to keep Liverpool at bay and did precisely that.
Diogo Dalot has had a mixed run of fortunes in the left wing-back position under manager Ruben Amorim, but he stepped up with an outstanding display.
The Portuguese was good with his positioning against Mohamed Salah and also gave Trent Alexander-Arnold a torrid time with his regular overlapping runs.
Alexander-Arnold could not keep up with the 25-year-old. Liverpool manager Arne Slot was eventually forced into a late substitution to replace him.
Dalot had 71 touches with 30 successful passes. He made six clearances and won four duels. The Porto graduate completed all of his dribbles.
The left wing-back did not register an accurate cross, but he produced a sublime delivery for Amad Diallo, who could not direct his header on goal.
Dalot was booked early for a foul on Salah, but that did not hamper his performance. He became a genuine attacking threat as the game went on.
There have been questions raised over Dalot’s adaptability to the left wing-back position, but he answered his critics with a superb performance at Anfield.
He received a 7/10 rating by Manchester Evening News, but it could have been higher had Diallo capitalised and scored an early goal for the Red Devils.
Diallo had his best game under Amorim. He has become undroppable for the but needs consistency to cement his position beyond this season.
