Starting centre-forward Albert Gronbaek appeared visibly satisfied with Southampton's systematic tactics against Liverpool.

Looking at the current Premier League table, neither Southampton's outcome nor their bottom-table stance changed yesterday. Still, the recent defeat had a vast amount of prestige associated with it as compared to the handful of shameful losses before it.

To begin with, Southampton didn't allow Liverpool to walk past them completely throughout the ninety minutes. In fact, securing a narrow half-time advantage at Anfield can be considered an achievement worth bragging about.

Add that with the fact that Southampton fans were longing enough for a Premier League goal, this 3-1 defeat had enough shades of a good collective performance.

The underrated positives didn't end here, though. That's because Albert Gronbaek's post-game thoughts translate a feeling that the entire roster has learned a thing or two from the past fixtures.

Applauding the unit's teamwork, the Daily Echo quoted Gronbaek: "You have to cover a lot of space. I feel good and I think the team did very good. We were good at covering each other, so I'm proud of the way we came out for the first half."

As a Southampton fan, it doesn't take long to realize that Gronbaek is indirectly referring to the dull Chelsea trip. Up against a renowned opponent, the Saints made the Blues' task easier by affording them tons of space near the box.

Consequently, Ivan Juric's men were punished and left chasing their counterparts all game. In this regard, the visitors came better prepared to avoid repeating a similar pattern on Saturday.

Evidently, Southampton managed to test Liverpool to their full extent before backing down. Holding on to a similar approach, the Saints seem better placed to welcome some valuable points in the subsequent fixtures.
